The Inconvenience of Losing Your Mobile Phone
We never expect it to happen to us, but then it does. In my case this has happened twice. I am, of course, talking about losing my mobile phone.
The first time I lost my mobile was clearly due to too many drinks on a boys night out. I’d been on my mobile while on my way home in a taxi and I think I must have left it on the back seat. When I realized what had happened, the following day, I called the cab firm but unfortunately they didn’t have my valuable telephone. It suddenly became very clear how much of my life was actually stored on that little device.
I vowed that I would be far more careful in future and get myself some mobile phone insurance to cover the cost of replacement. But the expense was the last of my concerns as I’d lost a whole load of telephone numbers and contact details that were only stored on my phone and nowhere else.
We’re all guilty of doing it. We run into an old friend and we immediately input their contact details into our telephones and don’t think about transferring those details to our computers or some sort of backup device, like an address book.
The second time I lost my mobile phone was on another night out but this time I wasn’t the worse for drink. I am convinced that a pickpocket was operating in the club and they had expertly removed the phone from my pocket. The truth is that I probably dropped it on the floor when removing cash to pay for drinks at the bar. I told the nightclub staff but, not surprisingly, my phone never re-appeared.
Stupidly, I hadn’t taken out the mobile phone insurance policy that I’d intended to. But due to the pain caused by my previous loss I had at least made note of many of the contact details stored on the phone.
I suppose there is a moral to this sorry tale? Not really. But I strongly suggest that you backup all of your telephone contact details and maybe get yourself some insurance to cover the cost of a replacement.
